Sue Corbett - Songwriter Singer and Guitar

Looking back...it all began with piano lessons around age 7. This seemingly innocent act quickly changed everything in my life. I began to understand the mesmerizing patterns of sound we call music and it wasn't long before page after page of lyrics filled melody books and note pads.

In 1966, The Beatles and the folk movement took over America. I was immediately drawn closer to the music that was already having a strong influence in my life...and future career. After  attending my first concert; Peter, Paul and Mary;  the only thing that I could see in my future was buying a guitar. Being young and female, guitar lessons were hard to come by...young ladies don’t play guitar, or so I was told. A strong will and determination is something I acquired at this tender age which made me work harder to defeat the odds, while continuing my piano and guitar studies. Eventually, I found people who believed in me, and showed me how music is an ever evolving and never ending process that you aren’t going to get good at overnight. By this time, I had obsessively started listening to everything I could get my ears around, and studying every detail of the music...trying to learn anything I didn’t know.

I discovered my ability to share knowledge with others when I gave my first guitar and piano lessons at  the ripe old age of 11. By the time I was 14, I had multiple students and a taste of being in my first band.  These days my day job is teaching guitar, bass guitar, piano, flute, and voice lessons.

Even with such a strong passion for music, being a veterinarian was my original goal. The universe had other plans and that path was a short one. Although my love of animals has never subsided, the music led me in a different direction. During my college years I majored in music composition and theory...and then...the school of hard knocks took over...the bands, gigging in bars, weddings, funerals, and just about anywhere we could find a venue for live music.

...and then there was Mark...Mark and I met through mutual friends and fellow musicians. This chance meeting turned into a lasting friendship and eventually led to our marriage in 1989. This was also important because Mark and I shared many beliefs which eventually spawned The Keepers, producing a lone CD in 1994. Shortly after releasing the CD we discovered another group called The Keepers so,  in order to avoid potential confusion and possible trouble, the band was retooled and renamed, Blue88. Five self produced CD’s, a DVD, my marriage to Mark, my ever evolving musical dream, and the music of Blue88 is still going strong.

I have been told the correct description for our music has yet to be invented so, my best suggestion is listening to the song clips on this site or attending a show to have a listen. We know our music won’t fit the typical molds bands are shoved in by music stores and radio but, when I sing and play guitar you will better understand who I am and where my passion is.
